Far and wide the best season of the series for one reason, and one reason alone: Rob & Amber... They're fun to watch, and if making good television is a sin... well... too bad.
Throwing Rob and Amber into The Amazing Race 7's mix is at once one of the smartest and most cynical tactics in reality television. The move breeds both addiction and possible resentment in longtime viewers, putting us at odds with the show and ourselves.
It's as if the producers were just hitting their comfort zone, if such a thing even exists with a project this massive, and felt free to open the game up for a few new diversions.
As The Amazing Race: The Seventh Season showcases, this series has effective drama, tight editing, exciting competition, and compelling storylines... But we're still prodding other people with a stick for our own amusement.
This season of "The Amazing Race" was pure fun, from Kelly calling Ron a "piece of trash redneck," to boyfriends Alex and Lynn repeatedly whining about how totally no-fair Rob and Amba were.
