Jin Kwon is a South Korean man who was in Sydney and headed to Los Angeles, joined by his wife Sun, to deliver expensive watches on his father-in-law's behalf to some of his associates in the two cities. Jin is a hard-working, loyal husband who came from a poor and dishonorable background, in his own estimation. His mother was a prostitute who left him as an infant with a fisherman who raised him as a father -- not knowing the paternity for certain. Wanting to follow his dream of owning a restaurant, Jin took a job as a hotel doorman where his main task was keeping the riff-raff -- people like him -- out. He quit after being berated by the hotel owner when he let a poor, disheveled man's son use the restroom. Jin met his would-be wife on his way out and disavowed his background to please her father and get her hand in marriage. Jin eventually became something of an enforcer for Sun's father, who was up to some sketchy activity. Jin was planning on fleeing Sun's father and staying in the U.S. when the plane crashed en route. On the island, Jin -- who speaks no English -- becomes extremely overprotective of Sun, who seems to resent this. He forbids her from interacting with virtually anyone and scolds her for her appearance -- once lashing out because she had the top button of her blouse undone. Shortly after the crash, Jin and Michael have some tense exchanges, including Jin once attacking Michael and trying to kill him in front of Michael's son, Walt. Michael forgives this but Jin later suspects Michael of having an affair with Sun and Jin is suspected of having set Michael's raft ablaze after it's burned down. Michael then attacks Jin.Jin is quite misunderstood at first by the other survivors. He is seen as violent and abusive toward Sun and his inability to communicate with everyone else doesn't help. Jin makes overtures early on, such as preparing sea urchin for everyone, but spends much of his time fishing. He becomes a reliable assistant when it comes to helping Michael rebuild his raft and two ultimately set off together in search for rescue. Show less «
