They call her Gran and she is a warm, caring woman who also looked after Sookie's friend Tara Thornton when Tara's alcoholic mother didn't. She is supportive of Sookie's relationship with the vampire Bill Compton and tries to politely pump him for historical information, because she is head of the Descendants of the Glorious Dead, and organization that honors the memory of the Civil War.Background: Her husband was Earl Stackhouse, but he vanished when Sookie was five. There is more to his disappearance than Adele realizes. She has a brother, Barlett, who sexually abused Sookie when she was a child, but Adele cut him out of her life when she found out about it.
