Yareli was born in Mexico City. A proud Cuban-Mexican-American, she studied high school in Kansas. She got her BA in Political Science from the UCSD and went on to receive her MFA at the same institution. She is best known for her role as Rosaura, the "mean" sister in 'Like Water for Chocolate' and Lila, "the missing link" in a A Day Without a Mexican. At present her husband, Sergio Arau and herself are preparing a follow up to their successful first film with Another Day Without a Mexican. Their company is in promotion and preparation of various projects including Naco Es Chido (Kitsch is Cool) and the documentary Harvest of Empire. Multi-faceted, this actress is hard to pin down - and that's a good thing. Her character range is vast! Married to film director/Rocker/Artist Sergio Arau, they met on the set of "Like Water For Chocolate". Yareli and Sergio own Eye On The Ball Films for which she is VP of Development.
