In 'The Tale of the Silver Sight , the waif kid is a mysterious, slightly wild-looking being who constantly appears during the New Midnight Society's hunt for the Silver Sight charm to destroy it. Unknown to them, he approaches the fire they just left after it went out before they could give the true story a title, walking around it and causing it to relight. The first time someone notices him is when Tucker sees him watching him and Gary leaving Liang Candle's house before he runs off.He directs Megan to the sewer to find Peggy Gregory, revealing he knows about the goal. There, she can't find but hears him laughing before she finds Peggy and the rest of Eleanor's family. 0 When Quinn goes to Liang Candle's house to get a stolen sketch of Donna Tilton for Vince in exchange for Donna's piece of the record to lead to the charm, the kid appears and lets him in revealing he knows his name and mission, then enters and disappears. After he takes the picture, the kid meets him as he's about to leave remarking continuing the search will result in him resembling the drawing, which changes briefly into one of a skull. He approaches Tucker as he tries to get in to get Candle's record piece, hinting that this will bring trouble before opening the locked door and vanishing inside again. Unseen, he laughs after Tucker narrowly escapes Candle's animated collection of armor attacking.When Megan returns to the Gregorys' so Jim can give her their piece of the record, he can be heard laughing again. After Megan escapes Candle, she hears the kid calling for help and finds him with his foot jammed in a train track. As she tries to free it, a train approaches, and as it's right behind her he coolly warns her looking for the Silver Sight may harm her before disappearing (along with the train).After Quinn trades the picture for Vince's piece and is chased out of the junkyard by the same vicious dog who chased him on his first time in, the dog's growling stops as the kid starts to laugh secretly watching with his hands shooting up toward the fence before he's shown leaning on it, implying he is the dog.After Vange looks at a funhouse mirror in Playland while looking for Bob McGorrill with Andy, she sees him in a fortuneteller's booth and thinks he's a statue since the park is closed. Then he asks offers her, by name, a fortune, and vanishes while she and Andy meet Bob. He watches her again on the way out, but disappears when she turns to call Andy. Unseen, he spies on them from inside the deserted McGorrill house after they stop by.After the Midnight Society have used the record's clues and message to locate the Silver Sight in one of Playland's carousel horses, the kid appears on the now-activated ride. He claims he can help them take advantage of the Silver Sight, which will help them beat whoever opposes them. Candle appears, causing the kid to retreat in fear and encourage Gary to use it on Candle. Candle says the kid is a demon trying to get them to use the charm which will bring initial good luck but ultimately follow with ruin ending in death and its claiming their souls as it did the other members of the original Midnight Society. The kid argues that Candle is the real villain since he has lied to and acted threateningly to the group during the search, breaking into Grandma Aggie's house. After considering the choice and seeming about to use the charm on Candle, Gary turns with it to the waif kid naming him. Taking on his true form as a demon, which Gary saw in his nightmare before he got the call to destroy the Silver Sight, he vanishes in shock that it has the ability to effect him.A young Grandpa Gene, whom it's revealed was telling the whole story, confirms that he never returned.
