When he was 18, Travis signed up for the military. He quickly discovered that he was a gifted sniper. He had no explanation for it. He had never even shot a gun before but for some reason when they handed him a scoped rifle, he immediately fell in love with it. He won several shooting awards during his first 6 months in the military. Then he got sent into the field. After racking up hundreds of confirmed, one shot kills Travis began to feel differently about his sniper rifle. Then one day he was ordered to take out an enemy general who was rumored to be in a nearby office building. Travis took up position 1500 yards away and set up his shot. Like he had done hundreds of times before, he smoothly squeezed the trigger and watched his target fall. And then he saw it....through his scope he saw the small child cowering in the corner of the room covered in blood, brain matter, and skull fragments. That was the final straw. Travis had a mental breakdown and spent several months in a veteran's hospital. After finally coming to terms with his actions, he received an honorable discharge and used his GI bill to go to college where he earned his teaching degree. He has vowed to never shoot a gun again.
