In the beginning, (prior to his enlistment to the United States Navy), Alex lacked ambition, common sense, and any form of employment, frequently getting himself into trouble with both the law and his older brother. Stone Hopper then forces Alex to join the Navy, in which, Alex becomes a Lieutenant that notoriously is defiant on the chain of command and strategy.
