Laurie Strode is a character in the Halloween film franchise, where she is portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis in all of the original series of films where the character was featured. In the 2007 remake of Halloween , and the 2009 sequel Halloween II , Laurie was played by Scout Taylor-Compton.Laurie first appeared in the 1978 film Halloween , where she was revealed to be a smart, attractive, but introverted 17-year-old girl. Laurie lived in Haddonfield, Illinois, and attended Haddonfield High School. Her father was a local realtor in Haddonfield. Her two best friends, Annie and Lynda, were both the opposite of Laurie, being more interested in experimenting with alcohol, drugs and sex than in their school work. Laurie had a babysitting assignment on October 31, 1978, where she was babysitting young Tommy Doyle. Annie was babysitting Lindsey Wallace, who lived right across the street from Tommy.Unbeknownst to any of them, they were all being stalked by the psychopathic Michael Myers, a former resident of Haddonfield who had murdered his older sister when he was only six years old. Myers had been confined to a mental hospital after the original murder, but he escaped suddenly on the evening of October 30, 1978, returning to Haddonfield for more crimes. Michael murdered Annie and Lynda, as well as Lynda's boyfriend, Bob, then lured Laurie into a trap where she discovered the bodies. Laurie, however, had an advantage over her friends in that she was able to fend off the maniac and fight back. She managed to stab Myers in the neck with a knitting needle, in the eye with a wire hanger, and finally in the chest with a knife, none of which managed to stop him. After Myers attempted to strangle Laurie, she was rescued when Michael was shot by his own psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Loomis. Afterwards, Michael's body vanished. Halloween II (1981) took place again in 1978, immediately after the first film, and Laurie remained an important character. After the authorities were summoned, Laurie was taken by ambulance to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for shock, a stab wound to the arm, and a cracked ankle. Dr. Loomis and the local police failed to identify Laurie as a carefully chosen target of Myers, and they left her unguarded at the hospital. While Laurie slipped in and out of consciousness, Myers murdered a large segment of the hospital's late night staff, leaving Laurie alone to face Myers again. Laurie was jolted out of her sedation and managed to escape her pursuer once more, rescued by Sam Loomis. Loomis caused a huge explosion at the hospital that engulfed both him and Myers, presumably killing them both. During the course of the film, it was revealed that Laurie was actually the sister of Michael Myers, which presumably gave him some sort of reason for stalking her specifically. It is here that Laurie's history starts to split into two possible directions. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth installments of the Halloween franchise, it was presented as fact that Laurie was killed in a car accident, leaving behind a young daughter named Jamie. In Halloween: Twenty Years Later (1998) , Laurie returned to the franchise. The story was that she had faked her death and had been living in California under an assumed identity, Keri Tate. Although this could fit into the franchise storyline, it was unclear as to why or how Laurie had a teenage son while she left behind her daughter, Jamie. Likewise, the characters in this film seem to have no knowledge of any of the events or murders that occurred in parts 4-6, which would seem impossible if they had actually happened.Laurie was the headmistress of a private school, where her 17-year-old son John was also a student. Laurie was raising John on her own, having split with John's father years before. Laurie lived in fear of Myers somehow returning to threaten her, despite the fact that she had told John for years that she watched Myers burn before her eyes (a reference to the climax of Halloween II ). Unfortunately for Laurie, Myers did return and began his pattern of stalking and killing people at the school, isolating Laurie and her son until they were forced to flee. In an unexpected twist, Laurie sent her son and his girlfriend to safety while she returned to the deserted school to battle Myers to the death. They attacked each other in various ways until finally Laurie beheaded him with an axe.The final appearance of Laurie in this timeline of events occurs in Halloween: Resurrection (2002) , which opens by revising the conclusion of the previous film somewhat. Laurie is now confined to a mental institution herself, after it was discovered that the man she beheaded at the conclusion of Halloween: Twenty Years Later was not Michael Myers after all, but rather an innocent paramedic. Unable to cope with what she had done, Laurie had gone silent for years, secretly dodging her daily pills and pretending to be medicated when in fact she was fully aware and preparing for a final confrontation with Myers. When Myers does finally come for her, Laurie lures him to the rooftop of the facility and ensnares him a trap that dangles him upside-down over the edge of the building. While preparing to cut him loose and drop him to his death, Laurie makes the fatal mistake of trying to peel off Michael's mask, just to be sure of his identity. Michael grabs her and they fall together over the side of the building, where Laurie is impaled on the knife that Myers is holding. Realizing that she will die, Laurie kisses Michael and tells him I'll see you in Hell, at which point she falls to the ground below, presumably to her death. It is worth noting that, although we can presume that Laurie is dead at this point, the film never confirms this by having any of the other characters acknowledge her death. In the remake of Halloween (2007) , Laurie's character is somewhat more cursory; the film clearly indicates that she is the long-lost sister of Myers, and the portion of the film that includes the teenage Laurie sticks closely with the plot of the original film. However, Laurie is somewhat more outgoing in this version. She speaks loudly, is very animated, and doesn't seem to be quite as inhibited as she did when portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis. At the conclusion of the Halloween remake, it would seem that Laurie has killed Michael with a gunshot to the face, but in Halloween II (2009) , Michael is not dead. Laurie finds out that her real name is Angel Myers and that she is the sister of Michael.
