Dale Barbie Barbara is a stranger to Chester's Mill, who comes town on a mysterious errand that does not go well. The opening moments of the series show Barbie burying the body of a man in the woods. The body later turns out to be Julia Shumway's husband, Peter, which could prove complicated for him when they become friends and she begins searching for her missing spouse. Barbie does not appear to know the dead man's identity before Julia shows him a picture of her husband. Shortly after the burial, Barbie calls someone to report his errand didn't go well because the person tried to aggressively renegotiate. Barbie bears a cut over his eye, presumably from this altercation. It does not appear he came to Chester's Mill to kill Peter. He is trying to leave Chester's Mill when the dome comes down. He quickly displays signs of heroism when he saves Joe McAlister from falling plane debris by tackling him out of the way. He later takes a badly injured woman to the hospital in an attempt to save her.He and Julia Shumway, the editor of the local paper, explore the dome together and he reveals he has a military background. He does not mind roughing it and is prepared to sleep in his car outdoors when all the domed-in hotels are booked. He is wary of law enforcement and tries to avoid them.He tries to keep to himself, but is friendly to Angie McAlister, Joe's sister, giving her a cigarette. For this act of kindness he draws the attention of James Junior Rennie, who is unstable and jealous. Background: Very little is known about this handsome, mysterious stranger, other than the fact he was in the Army and has a boss outside the dome for whom his work ended in disposing of a body.
