Christabella is the leader of a fanatical religious group known only as the cult in the Silent Hill movie and is the sister of Dahlia Gillespie and aunt of Alessa Gillespie. Christabella is portrayed by actress Alice Krige.StorylineAfter Christabella's sister, Dahlia, gives birth to an illegitimite child; Christabella condemns the child as being sin incarnate ; leading to the active outcasting and daily humiliation and abuse of the little girl. Christabella demands to know the name of the father, but Dahlia continues to refuse; infuriating Christabella and causing her to claim that Alessa really is the child of immaculate conception.Christabella is either a regular teacher or possibly the principal of Midwich Elementary School, where her niece is abused by fellow students on a daily basis. Christabella and other teachers turn their backs as the other students physically attack Alessa (throwing books at her and possibly worse) and emotionally attack her ( You're a witch! , and scrawling the word 'Witch' over and over into her desk); leaving her alone in the world and vulnerable when the Janitor molests or rapes her in the school bathroom. Since no one is seen coming to help Alessa until her mother arrives and the janitor has already left the bathroom, it is largely implied that Christabella made sure that no one went to help Alessa- no matter what she was suffering through at the hands of the pedophilic janitor.After Alessa's sexual assault by the janitor, Christabella tries to convince Dahlia once again to name her child's father. When Dahlia again refuses, Christabella refers to Alessa as filth and asks Dahlia to allow the cult to purify Alessa and restore her innocence. Dahlia agrees and the nine-year-old Alessa is taken to the church hidden in the building next door to the Grand Hotel to be purified .Christabella reveals her treachoury at the door; telling Dahlia, You may leave, Dahlia. We fight the sin, not the sinner. Alessa is then forcefully torn from her mother by her aunt and is carried into the church. Once inside, she is shackled onto a seal containing the symbol of the cult's faith and is laid over a pit of burning coals to be burned alive as a witch. During this time, Christabella is seen wearing a wide smile, shouting praises to god over the child's screams and moans.When one of the chains holding down Alessa breaks, Christabella and her followers flee the church to avoid being burned alive themselves (how ironic) in the fire started by the overturned pit.For thirty years afterwards, Christabella and her followers hide in the church in the foggy world version of Silent Hill; where the dark world cannot reach them. Alessa and Dark Alessa brought the cult into the alternate realms to force them to pay for what they did to Alessa. Christabella believes that she and her followers are the chosen ones and that the Apocalypse has occurred; leaving only the faithful and a demon who wants to destroy them alive.While Rose DaSilva and Cybil Bennett are searching for Rose's missing daughter, Sharon DaSilva, they are led to the church where they meet Christabella. Christabella seems to initially be offended that Cybil shoots her gun in the church as Rose is being brutally attacked by the cultists. She quizzes the two women on how they got to the church in the first place, then eventually agrees to help them find Rose's missing child.She leads them to Brookhaven Hospital, where she claims a demon lies in wait. She tells Rose that only the demon can help her to find Sharon. As Rose and Cybil prepare to enter the elevator to take them to the demon's lair, Christabella tries to give Rose back her locket that had come off in the church. The locket falls open to reveal Sharon's picture and Christabella realizes that Sharon is identical to the demon (Alessa). She condemns Rose and Cybil and orders her followers to stop them from accessing the demon; but Rose slips into the elevator and is pulled into the dark world version of the hospital by Dark Alessa.Cybil is not so lucky, and Christabella allows her followers to beat her viciously after it is revealed that Cybil no longer has any bullets. They then take the police officer back to the church to be purified as an aid to the demon.Christabella then makes her way to Dahlia's apartment, where she finds Sharon hiding behind an old recliner. Both Sharon and Dahlia are dragged to the church; despite Dahlia's protests that the child is hers.Once in the church, Christabella has Cybil burned alive as a witch and then prepares to do the same to Sharon. Before she can enact her final plan, Rose arrives at the church and tells the cultists that they are being blinded by Christabella and that they are denying the truth. She says the Apocalypse never occurred and that they are trapped in this strange world because they darkened the heart of an innocent . Rose goes too far in Christabella's eyes when she tells her, God is not here. , causing Christabella to stab her in the chest.She realizes her mistake when Rose's blood starts to drip onto the floor and Alessa's tainted essence is released into the church. A portal is opened leading into the dark world and Alessa and Dark Alessa rise through it to take revenge for Alessa's torture thirty years before. Christabella is one of the first to be affected; being picked up by rusted barbed wire telepathically controlled by the bed-bound Alessa and forced to look the horribly burned woman in the face. She is then vagianlly and anally raped by the barbed wire, which then comes out through her mouth, back, and chest until she is ripped in half. Show less «
