Carlo Rizzi is the husband of Connie, Don Vito Corleone's daughter. He is best friends with Sonny and he meets the family in 1941, during the surprise birthday party for the Don (seen at the end of The Godfather Part II). He marries young Connie Corleone soon after (the opening of The Godfather). But he is not a faithful husband and their marriage could not have been more sour. A look at how mean he can be is first seen when he tells Connie to shut up at the dinner table. Sonny objects to it but his mother says Don't interfere. Nobody is allowed to get involved in any marital issues. He is very low in terms of duty with the family, which makes him a much angrier individual. He drinks, cheats, and is both physically & emotionally abusive to his wife. He sells out by helping Barzini assassinate Sonny, a set up which involved one of his mistresses calling the house and beating up Connie--knowing Sonny would come for her. Following the death of Sonny, Carlo gets a higher position in the family and is almost completely reformed. The only bad habit his still has is an occasional fling. After the Corleone family rises to the top of the underworld again, Michael gets Carlo to answer for Sonny's murder. Carlo is scared and remorseful, but ultimately surrenders. Michael gives him a plane ticket ordering him out of the family and to relocate to Las Vegas. When Carlo gets into his car, Clemenza strangles him to death. Show less «
