Steven Wiig was born and raised in the rugged, isolated Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He grew up drawing, playing in the woods and making home videos with his younger siblings. While studying art and psychology at Northern Michigan University, he worked as a college radio DJ and in-house artist at the local comic book store. After spending a few years in Minnesota playing music, Wiig relocated to Northern California, accepting an offer to work with the band Metallica. Traveling the world for over a decade as writer, photographer, videographer and personal assistant, he appeared in the band's award winning documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004) and played the drums in the Metallica side-project Papa Wheelie.Steven was encouraged to pursue acting by friends Robin Wright and Sean Penn and was quickly cast in Penn's Into the Wild (2007). Soon after, he acted alongside Penn in his Oscar Winning performance for the Gus Van Sant biopic Milk (2008). Upon becoming a member of the Screen Actor's Guild, Steven worked in numerous films, including Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master (2012)', Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine (2013) and Tim Burton's Big Eyes (2014), as well as the blockbuster movies Godzilla (2014) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).Steven Wiig is also know for supporting roles in James Franco's childhood-inspired Yosemite (2015) and the Bay Area historical drama America Is Still the Place (2015).Steven continues working behind the camera producing and directing and still enjoys playing music.
