In her early teens, Erika Monroe Williams was discovered in Los Angeles by world-famous modeling agent, Eileen Ford. Erika was in the audience of a modeling contest held by the Ford agency when Eileen spotted her. Eileen walked over and asked Erika to sit next to her throughout the show, then later asked her to stay at Ford's home in New York. Erika went for a short while, but wanted to go home to study broadcasting. She did just that, and is happy about her decision to pursue a career in journalism.Erika's big break in news came when she was asked to become the weekend anchor at 3TV (KTVK) in Phoenix, one of the country's most successful independent stations. Before Arizona, Erika spent a year in Lubbock, Texas, as the main anchor and health reporter for Fox affiliate KJTV. While there, she won first and second place in the Texas Media Awards.A native of Southern California, Monroe studied at UCLA while she was working in entertainment public relations with the newly formed firm, Huvane Baum Halls. She saw this as a way to work with reporters and get her feet wet in the TV reporting business. She worked daily with celebrity clients, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Aniston and Antonio Banderas.Prior to moving to Texas, Monroe worked as a reporter for Revlon's television special about the movie Moulin Rouge! (2001), starring Nicole Kidman. The show took her to Sydney, Australia, to shoot on the set of the movie.
